About Carisma
CARISMA is about the relief of young people in need in the Inner South Manchester. In particular relief for those who may be at risk of becoming involved in criminal activities, extending to their families and communities. We provide advice, support, inspiration and information through networking with existing community groups in an effort to improve quality of life.
We aim to develop the capacity and skills of members of the socially and economically disadvantaged community of Inner South Manchester and beyond, in such a way that they are better able to identify and help meet their needs and to participate more fully in society.
In addition, we aim to increase cultural awareness of other communities through cultural competence of other ethnicities.
CARISMA was initially set up in 2002 as Community Alliance for Renewal, Inner South Manchester Area, a grassroots community response to gang violence, running a number of initiatives and projects such as PeaceWeek, out of which came radio station PeaceFM (now known as Legacy). Its strapline was "life-chances for young people in the community". That charity was closed in 2015 due to a big drop in gun and gang crime. Now the CARISMA name is being used again (operating as a Company limited by guarantee, 11960752) for new initiatives and projects, still with that aim in mind. The old website is archived here.
