serveAt The Story So Far 8, Carisma'a Annual Meeting for 201, we will also be looking ahead to PeaceWeek #10 in2012, and asking "Where next?" for Carisma (and who is willing to get involved?. Carisma seeks to serve the community, so please come along and share your opinions and views.

It was felt that after 9 years it was time to update the Constitution in the light of recent charity legislation and the current model used by the Charities Commission. It is important that members of the community attend approve of the new version. The CARISMA Annual Meeting for 2010 was held on 27 January 2011 at the Amani Centre, Moss Side.

CEO Erinma Bell gave a report on activities during the year. These included PeaceWeek 2010 “Peace in the Mix”, Oral History project, Drama project, WearPeace/Guns into Goods project Beacon Science Award, DVD project, 3-month sabbatical in Thailand studying Peace and Conflict and PeaceFM.

There was also a financial report and an agenda item on PeaceFM which included this statement, as communicated to the membership of Peace Full Media.
"The Trustees of CARISMA have discussed the events that unfolded during the summer at the studios of PeaceFM. We are encouraged to see the efforts being made to solve the governance problems that have come to light, but are concerned about the breakdown of several relationships between individuals and the personal hurt caused by the situation. We are mindful of what we claim to stand for, aware of concern in the wider community and of the importance of ensuring that outstanding conflict is resolved. The Trustees of CARISMA therefore offer a proposal to invite a trained mediator to meet those involved in order to establish a way forward. They have accordingly pledged £1000 towards the cost of this process."

The Chair spoke of the need for more trustees for Carisma and the importance of a community organisation having a stable and representative group of people to run it responsibly. It was proposed that the trustees will meet more frequently in the next year as there were crucial issues to be addressed regarding the future development of Carisma: this could be as many as 10 meetings. He asked if any present would be willing to become trustees, and three responded.

This year's PeaceWeek ran from March 5-12 and had the theme "Generating Peace". This was about peace between the generations, getting beyond stereotypes through building relationships based on mutual appreciation and respect.Despite some restrictions due to reductions in funding, most ofthe regular PeaceWeek events were present, even if in some cases scaled back a bit.

paradeThe Launch Event yet again showcased the amazing talent within our young people - singing, rapping, poetry, dancing and drama. The opening weekend also featured PeaceWeek Shield football and netball competitions. Work in schools took place through the week with assemblies and lantern-making workshops.

There were also several lantern workshops in the community, all leading up to the Lantern Parade on Friday, where once again the rain stopped in time for us to stay dry as we walked. This year we re-vamped the parade and for the first time finished in Ardwick - many thanks to Healthy Ardwick for partnering with us in this. Healthy Ardwick also put on a number of their own events, including a superb art exhibition featuring yet more talented local people. Other events were put on by local churches and faith groups.

Finally, on the Saturday, the OSBAs at The Place Hotel was the grandest yet as more Outstanding Social Behaviour Awards were given out to local people to recognise their positive work in the community or achievement in their own lives.
